About Again

Again makes carbon negative chemicals for a cleaner future. We are the first carbon negative chemical manufacturer that can scale to meet global demand. The best thing about it: we use carbon dioxide as a feedstock. We have raised over $100m to date from top venture capital investors as well as in grant funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme. We are a growing team of experienced scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs from the DTU, Stanford, MIT (and more) who are passionate about revolutionizing the chemical industry. Join us in the fight against climate change.

What you’ll do

We are seeking a motivated Strain Development Scientist to join our team and expand our capabilities in building robust microbial hosts for novel product pathways. You will be working at the interface of molecular biology, metabolic engineering, and microbial physiology to deliver new strains that enable efficient production of target molecules. This role offers the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with experts in fermentation, downstream processing, and analytics while taking ownership of the strain development cycle from design to validation. Your work will be pivotal in making our process the go-to technology for green chemical manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop aerobic microbial host platforms (prokaryotic and/or eukaryotic) for new product pathways.
  • Establish and optimize transformation methodologies, including validation of genetic tools.
  • Apply modular cloning and genome editing methods (e.g., CRISPR) to rapidly construct and test engineered strains.
  • Integrate biosynthetic pathways and assess functional expression in target hosts.
  • Analyze experimental results, apply Design of Experiments (DOE), and translate findings into actionable next steps.
  • Collaborate closely with fermentation, strain engineering, and analytics teams to ensure strains move seamlessly into process development.
  • Document and communicate results clearly through lab notebooks, technical reports, and presentations.

About You

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemical Engineering, or related field with 0–2 years of industry experience, OR M.S. with 3–5 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Hands-on experience in microbial strain engineering, including transformation, pathway integration, or gene expression optimization.
  • Preferred: experience with both pro- and eukaryotic organism.
  • Preferred: metabolic engineering experience
  • Proficiency with modern molecular biology tools (CRISPR/Cas9 or Cas12a preferred; zinc finger or related technologies also relevant).
  • Strong data analysis skills and familiarity with DOE principles.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset; thrives on resourcefulness and creativity under constraints.
  • Enjoys hands-on lab work, operates with autonomy, and communicates clearly across teams.

What we promise you?

  • You get to work with a group of passionate scientists, working on challenging and meaningful projects
  • This will be the journey of a lifetime – we are serious about our mission to reduce over 1 gigaton of CO₂ and you can play a pivotal role in making that happen
  • An inclusive, empowering and engaging work environment
  • We understand that relocating can be a hassle, so if you don't live in Denmark, we will help out to give you a smooth transition
