The Position: Experimental Physicist (Diagnostics)

As a Experimental Physicist (Diagnostics) at Hades, you will develop our laser drilling diagnostics suite from design of diagnostics to implementation and testing. You willl design and develop novel diagnostics in different environments. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team of engineers, geologists, and scientists to make ultra-deep drilling fast and cheap.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, fielding and maintaining diagnostics equipment to optimize laser-based drilling in different environments
  • Evaluate existing Measurement While Drilling tools and implement relevant technology into the Hades tech stack
  • Support experiment work both in the laboratory and in the field
  • Work closely with application engineer and other researchers to optimize diagnostics for data quality and integrity

Qualifications

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual who possesses:

  • PhD or MSc in applied physics or experimental optics, with a focus on e.g. high power lasers in non-ideal environments, LIBS, plasma spectroscopy
  • Prior experience in working in a fast-pace experimental environment, comfortable working with tools, diagnostic instruments, and lab equipment
  • Prior experience developing custom diagnostics from a mix of optical and non-optical signals, preferrably in combination with laser-matter interaction
  • Prior experience developing diagnostics in harsh environments (e.g. high temperature, high pressure, under water) is a plus
  • Prior experience on geoscience-based sensors is a plus
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
