The Position: (Senior) Opto-mechanical Engineer

As a (Senior) Opto-mechanical Engineer at Hades, you will be responsible for the design and implementation of the optical setups for our laser drilling technology. This role is one of Hades first hires and will play a pivotal role in the journey of Hades - it provides the opportunity for real impact from day one. You will work closely with the technical founding team and the multidisciplinary team of engineers, geologists, and scientists to make ultra-deep drilling fast and cheap.

Responsibilities

  • Design state of the art, robust, high-stability optomechanical systems for high average power laser systems
  • Perform opto-mechanical analysis to optimize thermal drift & mounting stress
  • Perform CAD or FEM model of optical setups including stray light analysis and non-sequential ray tracing for reflections and determining material characteristics of optical setup
  • Create drawings using tools such as Siemens NX to develop and procure optics, mechanics and support items
  • Develop test plans for evaluation of the designs
  • Work with optical and systems engineering teams to deliver integrated designs for use in harsh environment (i.e. ruggedization, ISO compliance)

Qualifications

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual who possesses:

  • BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering or related field
  • Direct design experience with precision opto-mechanical products
  • Previous experience working with high-average power systems (>10 kW) in harsh environments
  • Experience working with mounting of optical fibers
  • Strong CAD, FEM and design-for-manufacturing skills.
  • Hands-on experimental and prototyping experience.
  • You demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • You are willing to reside in the greater Munich area
