Laser Engineer
Marvel Fusion
Who we are
Why Marvel Fusion
By joining us, you will be:
- Solving one of the most complex technological challenges known to humanity, harnessing Fusion on Earth
- Part of a highly purpose-driven team working on providing the world with clean, safe and abundant energy
- Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion
- Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default
The impact you will make
You will play a vital role in supporting our world-class, multinational team of scientists in various laser laboratories around the world, with a focus on our activities at the Center for Advanced Laser Applications (CALA) in Garching, Germany. You will be working on the forefront of optical technology, investigating the suitability of next-generation, high-performance optical components that have to meet the extreme conditions inside of an inertial confinement fusion (ICF) power plant laser. Furthermore, you will be directly involved in the development, assembly and operation of cutting-edge laser technology based on those components. Your success will be a major contribution to Marvel Fusion’s goal of pushing the boundaries of high average power, ultra-intense lasers systems towards ultra-compact and efficient drivers suitable for ICF power plants.
Your responsibilities
- Design, assemble and operate a versatile measurement setup for the characterization of state-of-the-art, high-performance laser optics in the framework of the BMBF project “FusioTile”
- Use and maintain some of the most advanced Yb:YAG lasers in the world to thoroughly investigate short-term and long-term effects of these optics when they meet the extreme conditions inside of an ICF power plant
- Work together with leading optics manufacturers to improve the current state-of-the-art of optical technology, based on your investigations
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in the development, assembly and operation of key components for the next generation of highly efficient, high average power, ultra-intense lasers
- Take part in experimental campaigns around the globe to explore the interaction of ultra-intense laser light with Marvel Fusion’s unique, nano-fabricated fusion targets
Activities will initially be performed in the Greater Munich (DE) area, with occasional travel to research facilities worldwide.
What you bring
