Who we are

Founded in 2019, Marvel Fusion is Europe’s leading fusion energy company, uniting 75 scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs across our locations in Munich and Colorado.

Backed by over €385 million in public and private funding, we’re driven by a shared mission: to deliver clean, abundant energy to the world.

Why Marvel Fusion

By joining us, you will be:

  • Solving one of the most complex technological challenges known to humanity, harnessing Fusion on Earth
  • Part of a highly purpose-driven team working on providing the world with clean, safe and abundant energy
  • Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion
  • Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default

The impact you will make

Every one of our experiments starts with a high-power laser being focused to relativistic intensities onto our targets. You will make that happen. As a Laser Engineer, you will play an essential hands-on role in operating, characterizing and improving the ATLAS-3000 laser in the Center of Advanced Laser Applications (CALA), one of the most powerful lasers world-wide. You will be working closely with experienced scientists, engineers and external collaborators preparing and executing complex experiments, helping contribute to improved performance and outcome. Therefore, your work will directly enable experimental progress in Marvel Fusion’s unique laser-driven fusion concept.
This role is ideal for early-career engineers who enjoy practical work and want to gain experience in the field of high-intensity lasers and their applications.

Your responsibilities

  • Operate the ATLAS-3000 laser for Marvel Fusion experiments at CALA
  • Develop and integrate laser diagnostics for online monitoring of laser performance
  • Support the local team on laser-performance improvement, integration of diagnostics and data interpretation
  • Support the team in performing successful experiments and analyzing results
  • Contribute to documentation such as operating procedures, safety guidelines, and logs
  • Travel internationally for several weeks at a time to support experiments at external facilities

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, Laser Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience aligning and working with ultrafast or high-peak-power laser systems
  • Familiarity with ultrafast laser principles, nonlinear optics, and characterization tools for ultrafast lasers
  • Strong organizational and communication skills and a collaborative working style
  • Proactive, hands-on mindset with willingness to work in highly dynamic laboratory and facility environments
  • Ability and enthusiasm to work and travel globally

What sets you apart

  • Experience working with vacuum equipment and in cleanroom environments
  • Expertise in integrating diagnostic systems into complex scientific experiments including the development of control and software
  • Experience using optical design or simulation tools
  • Experience developing data analysis algorithms with Python (or similar)
  • German language proficiency or willingness to learn the language

Our mission is motivation enough for many. But we also support our team with benefits that foster wellbeing and growth:

  • Public transport reimbursement
  • EGYM Wellpass fitness club access
  • Complimentary health insurance
  • Professional development support
  • Healthy office snacks
