Mainframe Developer (m/w/d)

1. Job Summary
The Technical Lead will be responsible for delivering technical changes based on business requirements, defining suitable technical solutions, guiding development and testing teams, and coordinating with business, operations, and cross-technology units.
This role is ideal for a Mainframe expert who enjoys hands-on analysis, solution design, and team leadership in a global and collaborative environment.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Independently design, develop, and deploy major technical changes
- Guide, mentor, and support development and testing teams
- Translate functional and non-functional business requirements into system specifications
- Analyze AS‑IS legacy systems and support the definition of migration requirements
- Coordinate with Business, Operations, and other technology teams
- Develop integration strategies across Mainframe and non-Mainframe applications
- Perform application analysis in CAGEN COBOL (training provided if needed)
- Support production, incident analysis, and performance engineering
- Prepare system documentation and technical architecture materials
- Collaborate effectively in a global delivery model
- Apply domain expertise across Life Insurance (P&C/Annuity is a plus)
3. Job Requirements
Essential Skills
- Strong technical background in COBOL, JCL, DB2, IMS DC, Mainframe Utilities
- Experience in modern mainframe development environments
- Ability to design and implement complex technical solutions
- Strong analytical skills and experience documenting system architecture
- Experience in Mainframe migration projects (data transfer, reverse engineering, integrations)
- Domain knowledge: Life Insurance (P&C and Annuity exposure desirable)
- Excellent teamwork and stakeholder communication skills
CAGEN Skills (Advantage – Not Mandatory)
CAGEN knowledge is a plus. Training will be provided if required.
1. Scripting & Structure (Advantage)
- Import/Export/Local/Entity Views
- Commands, Exit States
- CAB adjustments
- Subsets handling
- Batch vs. Server vs. Client behaviors
2. Tools & Environment (Advantage)
- Understanding of toolset elements (Enzy, CABs, PROC, Worksets, Analysis/Design)
- Check‑in / Check‑out procedures
- Impact Analysis and code searches (CEED / Guardien)
- Basic knowledge of CG86 on Mainframe
3. Testing & Deployment (Advantage)
- Unit testing in CA‑GEN
- Deployment and release processes
- Debugging CA‑GEN generated COBOL code
Nice-to-Have
- Agile mindset and experience working in agile environments
- Experience with Web Services
- Global delivery experience
- Excellent team collaboration skills
Qualifications
- B.Tech or equivalent technical degree
- German B2+ and fluent English communication skills
