iOS Developer – Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) + Bluetooth Orchestration Layer

Role Summary

We are looking for an iOS Developer with strong Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) experience to build and enhance a Bluetooth orchestration layer—a shared platform component that standardizes and coordinates BLE device interactions across multiple app features. The engineer will deliver reliable device discovery, connection lifecycle management, event normalization, and resilience patterns for BLE-enabled store/IoT workflows.

Key Responsibilities

BLE / CoreBluetooth Engineering (iOS)

• Build and maintain BLE connectivity features using iOS BLE patterns such as device discovery (scanning) and controlled connection handling.
• Implement scanning strategies including scanning for desired services by service UUID, including considerations when operating in background mode.
• Apply BLE fundamentals (advertising, scanning, connection states) to produce stable, low-latency device experiences.

Bluetooth Orchestration Layer (Shared Platform Component)

• Design and enhance a Bluetooth orchestration layer that standardizes BLE behaviors across app modules (e.g., common device discovery/connection lifecycle flow).
• Coordinate BLE interactions across multiple features by providing consistent lifecycle management and event routing patterns (as required by the platform).
• Improve reliability through resilience patterns (e.g., well-managed lifecycle transitions and recoverability in BLE workflows).

Collaboration & Quality

• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (mobile, QA, device/IoT, backend) to deliver end-to-end BLE workflows.
• Produce clean, maintainable code; participate in code reviews and technical design discussions.
• Support testability and diagnosability with structured logs and reproducible issue triage inputs (as per team standards).

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on iOS development experience (Swift; Objective‑C as a plus).
• Proven Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) experience and familiarity with BLE app implementation patterns (including scanning and background behavior requirements).
• Experience building shared libraries / platform components used across multiple features (important for orchestration layer ownership).
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills for connectivity issues in real-world environments.

Preferred / Nice to Have

• Experience working on connected-device or IoT mobile applications.
• Experience with frameworks and practices that improve reliability and maintainability of mobile platform components.
• Familiarity with BLE security considerations and connected device ecosystems.

Salary and Other Compensation:

• The annual salary for this position is between $84,000 – $105,000 + Bonus depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
  This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
