L3 SAN Engineer – Hitachi / IBM / Brocade
Role Overview
- Deliver L3 engineering across Brocade SAN fabrics, IBM storage, and Hitachi VSP arrays
- Lead SAN fabric design, director onboarding, and multi‑fabric architecture
- Perform deep‑dive troubleshooting of fabric issues and performance anomalies
- Provide end‑to‑end provisioning and replication engineering across platforms
- Support DR readiness, fabric scalability, and global datacenter operations
- Drive stability, optimization, and lifecycle engineering of SAN infrastructure
- Demonstrate architecture‑level understanding of ASICs, directors, and cache systems
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong Brocade experience, including Directors, FOS 9.x, trunking, and virtual fabrics
- Expertise in Hitachi VSP G‑series hardware, architecture, data flow, and provisioning
- Hands‑on IBM SVC/Flash storage engineering and monitoring experience
- Ability to troubleshoot L3 issues like slow drain devices, congestion, and buffer credit issues, etc..
- Proficiency with SANnav, Ops Center, and IBM Storage Insights
- Strong fiber channel protocol and SAN fabric architecture knowledge
- Experience delivering complex SAN changes, upgrades, and migrations
- Ability to collaborate across OS, virtualization, DB, and network teams
- Strong documentation, RCA, and engineering governance skills
Key Responsibilities
- Design, expand, and maintain SAN fabrics and director‑class switches
- Configure ISLs, trunking, logical switches, and fabric segmentation
- Perform zoning creation, cleanup, and compliance checks
- Troubleshoot slow drain devices, congestion, and performance issues
- Analyze logs, port health, MAPS alerts, and ASIC behavior
- Execute complex L3 SAN changes, firmware upgrades, and patching
- Provision storage on Hitachi arrays, manage pools, and configure replication
- Manage IBM SVC/Flash provisioning, performance tuning, and capacity
- Support DR tests, replication validation, and failover design
- Maintain SOPs, runbooks, and engineering documents
- Drive RCA, preventive actions, and service improvement initiatives
- Coordinate with cross‑domain teams during incident and performance investigations
- Ensure standardization, compliance, and best practices in SAN environments
- Contribute to architecture reviews and capacity planning
