We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive QE Architect to drive quality engineering strategy and execution for various modernization programs. This role will lead the quality assurance stream in a high-impact engagement leveraging various methodologies like BDD/TDD and AI tooling & Solutions. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in automation frameworks, AI tooling, and quality governance, with a strong understanding of financial/insurance systems and modernization best practices.

In this role, you will

  • Define and lead the end-to-end QE strategy for a large-scale application modernization initiative.
  • Champion BDD/TDD practices across engineering teams, ensuring test-first development and continuous validation.
  • Collaborate with developers, architects, and product owners to translate business requirements into testable user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Oversee the use of AI solutions across SDLC especially focussed on Quality Engineering
  • Design and implement automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, REST Assured) for UI, API, and integration testing.
  • Integrate quality gates into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and enforce static code analysis (e.g., SonarQube).
  • Monitor test coverage, defect leakage, and quality KPIs; drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead a team of automation engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and performance oversight.
  • Ensure compliance with financial domain standards, including security, performance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with DevOps and development leads to ensure seamless test automation and deployment workflows.

Required skills

  • 12+ years of experience in software quality engineering, with at least 5 years in a lead role.
  • Proven experience implementing and scaling BDD/TDD practices in enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on experience with test automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, JUnit/TestNG, REST Assured).
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and integrating automated tests into pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of financial services applications, especially in banking, insurance, or investment domains.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.

AI Tooling & Innovation in QE (Required):

  • Demonstrated experience with AI-assisted development and testing tools such as:
    • Devin (Cognition’s autonomous AI engineer)
    • GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, or similar LLM-based developer assistants
    • Agentic IDEs (e.g., Windsurf)
  • Proven ability to implement AI-driven QE use cases, including:
    • User Story to BDD Feature File generation
    • BDD Feature File to UI/API test script automation
    • AI-assisted test case generation and test data synthesis
    • Autonomous test execution and failure triage using AI agents
    • Integration of AI tools into DevOps pipelines for continuous quality validation
  • Experience in evaluating and scaling AI-based QE accelerators in enterprise environments
  • Familiarity with AI governance, model validation, and responsible AI practices in regulated industries

Total compensation:

We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between CAD 110,000 – 133,000 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.

Working arrangements

We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Toronto, Ontario.
