Hi! We are Martin and Matija, founders of Wasp - a next-generation web framework for building enterprise-grade web apps in the AI era. We’re making developers 10x more effective while building apps like Airbnb, Asana, or Jira.
We were part of Y Combinator in 2021 and raised funds from top US & European VC funds. We raised over $5M, with our latest round closed at the end of 2024.
We're a team of eight engineers seeking a driven candidate with startup experience to streamline processes across different verticals, depending on the priority - hiring, marketing, team, reporting, investor communication, and more.

What will you do - Responsibilities

We’re looking for an operations-focused individual to help us execute faster and better across all non-technical areas.
You will work with the two founders and everyone else at the company - engineering, and the devrel/marketing team. Your work will be crucial because you will be the enabler, allowing everyone on the team to focus on what they do best.
As we grow Wasp we expect you to grow with us. We envision a successful candidate who would grow into the Head of Operations or a similar senior position.

Operations - a glue that holds the company together
We see Operations as a key function in the company and are incredibly excited about making this hire.
Although work at an early-stage startup varies from small tasks (e.g., ordering office supplies) to high-level strategic initiatives (e.g., running a Series A fundraise), your role is not to become an ad hoc task rabbit but to become an invaluable advisor and partner to the founders.
We will invest in you and your onboarding to the role. You will see the company from the founder’s perspective and learn how we work and think. We expect you to become an equal partner who will challenge us and be the force that propels the whole company forward.

The work - high-level overview

Some tasks will be recurring (and you're more than welcome to automate them), some will be seasonal (e.g., hiring, fundraising), and some will emerge on a one-off basis.
Here is a high-level overview of your responsibilities:
Own, build, and improve processes and systems across the company. We use Notion as our internal wiki and knowledge base system.
Own company metrics, reporting, and investor communication. We send monthly updates with company-wide KPIs and news.
Manage financial & legal operations: budget, travel, and bookkeeping; manage invoices and purchase orders.
Find, assess, choose, and manage external non-technical contractors and tools, including legal, graphical design, recruiting, and marketing.
Organize, plan, and execute team events - e.g., annual retreats and quarterly get-togethers.
Office management - order supplies and own office-related services.
Act as a right-hand to the CEO - as the company grows, there is too much work to be done, and for founders to still be able to focus on their core jobs. This is where you come in.

Who we are looking for - Requirements

You have at least 2 years of experience working in a startup or a similar high-agency environment.
Exceptional communication skills in English - both oral and written.
Proven ability to manage time efficiently and prioritize multiple stakeholders, functions, and tasks.
You are highly proactive, independent, and comfortable proposing new ideas. This also means holding your ground when you believe you are right.
Extreme attention to detail, organization skills, and responsiveness. You solve problems before others realise they exist.
Analytical approach to problem-solving. You’re able to analyze the problem and assess potential solutions systematically and measurably.

The truth is that we don’t know exactly what you will be doing. There is a certain ebb and flow to all of this, and depending on the timing, some things will be less or more important at the given moment. Maybe you will spend a decent amount of your time assisting with the fundraise or finding and equipping the new office, and maybe that’s something you won’t even touch.
What’s important to us is that you’re willing to be adaptive and take on whatever is the biggest priority at the moment. And you are up for taking initiative on it and telling us what we need to do to help it get done, not the opposite.

Who we are

The founders

We are Martin and Matija, nice to meet you! We are the founders of Wasp.
We are twin brothers (Matija being older! :D), computer scientists, software engineers, and ex-algorithmic competitors. We worked in places from SF, New York, Zurich, and London to Singapore - from developing and publishing research papers on OSS bioinformatics algorithms and engineering at Google and Palantir to founding/leading teams at startups. Wasp is the second company we started together.

The team

We’re a team of eight people - founders, engineers, and a growth lead. We’re spread across Europe (Croatia, Germany, Spain, Serbia). We all love what we do, work together as a team, and make sure to support each other, celebrate our successes, and learn from our failures.
No matter the position, our goal is for each team member to be deeply familiar with our long-term vision and current company and product goals. We run biweekly sprints and launch new features every quarter via Launch Weeks - a week dedicated to sharing what’s new in the product and the community.

Location

The team operates fully remotely, with Discord being the main means of communication. We have an office in Zagreb, where the founders and several other team members are located.
We’re okay with you working from home, but occasionally, there will be things that will need to be done in person. This is why it’s vital that you’re physically located in Zagreb and can go to the office when needed.
