About This Role:

We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our DevOps team in Berlin and drive the reliability, scalability, and automation of our hybrid cloud and on-premise systems. This role focuses on optimizing deployment pipelines, improving system performance, and ensuring operational excellence across our high-throughput, web-facing infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will combine deep Linux expertise, cloud proficiency, and Infrastructure-as-Code mastery to deliver robust, cost-efficient, and highly available infrastructure solutions that empower development teams and support business growth.

Our Benefits:

At Atolls, we believe in nurturing both your professional and personal growth. Here’s what you can expect:

• A culture that values personal and professional development, with internal mobility opportunities.
• A supportive and open-minded team that embraces diverse perspectives and innovative ideas.
• 32 days of paid vacation plus your birthday off, giving you the time you need to recharge.
• A flexible hybrid working scheme to balance work and life.
• Access to a learning budget and internal training to help you grow in your role.
• Mental health coaching to support your well-being.
• Regular global and local get-togethers to celebrate successes and build connections.
• The possibility of taking a sabbatical after two years with the company.
• A cloud-based company setup, providing flexibility and collaboration opportunities no matter where you are.

*These are global benefits that apply to all employees, with additional local perks based on your location.

Responsibilities:

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will:

  • Together with the DevOps team: implement, improve, and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) standards and CI/CD pipelines to accelerate deployments, minimize downtime, and support developer self-service.
  • Administer, tune, and troubleshoot high-performance Linux servers and middleware to maximize web throughput.
  • Maintain, optimize, and extend our monitoring, logging, and observability stack (Prometheus/Grafana, ELK, Jaeger) to ensure deep operational visibility and system reliability.
  • Manage hybrid cloud and on-premise environments, optimize costs, and maintain containerized workloads (Docker/Kubernetes), including scalability, auto-scaling, and load balancing.
  • Collaborate with the DevOps team in resolving high-severity incidents and help improve processes, tooling, and documentation to strengthen operational efficiency and resilience.
  • Ensure infrastructure security through secrets management, network segmentation, and automated vulnerability scanning.

Your Profile:

  • Extensive Linux expertise, ideally 6+ years working with high-availability, public-facing, and high-throughput environments.
  • Solid hands-on cloud experience (3+ years with AWS, GCP, or Azure), ideally within hybrid or mixed environments.
  • An innovator with strong opinions, quick problem-solving abilities, and a results-oriented attitude
  • Strong Infrastructure-as-Code mindset, with proven experience using Terraform alongside a configuration management tool such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Automation-focused approach, with strong Bash skills and experience using a higher-level language such as Python or Go to streamline workflows and eliminate manual effort.
  • Deep understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, routing, firewalls, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines, modern deployment practices, and collaborative engineering environments.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team-driven DevOps function, contributing to shared platforms, standards, and reliability improvements alongside self-motivated individual work
  • A pragmatic problem-solver with strong communication skills and a focus on building maintainable, scalable, and reliable infrastructure.

Our hiring process:
